DESCRIPTION

We are currently meeting with students either in-person at their homes/location of choice or via Zoom. On Zoom, tutors are able to use a whiteboard function, screen share, annotate on shared documents for live instruction, and more. We tutor the SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, SAT, ACT, and most academic subjects in elementary, middle, and high school.

For HSPT tutoring, we are thrilled to announce the completion of Accepted: The Ultimate Guide to Success on the HSPT – an interactive workbook designed to prepare students for the HSPT online and in-person. This includes a licensed membership to IXL through Archimedes so that students can practice foundational skills if needed.

When we’re working with students on their homework from another teacher’s curriculum, we do our very best to stay consistent with how the material is being taught in the classroom. Always, we customize our style and approach to the specific student we’re working with based on his or her preferred learning methods and modalities. Most of our sessions are one-on-one; group sessions are especially popular around finals and AP exams

Subject-based tutoring:

When we’re working with students on their homework from another teacher’s curriculum, we do our very best to stay consistent with how the material is being taught in the classroom. We always customize our style and approach to the specific student we’re working with based on his or her preferred learning methods and modalities. Most of our sessions are one-on-one; group sessions are especially popular around finals and AP exams.

HSPT prep:

We are thrilled to announce the completion of Accepted: The Ultimate Guide to Success on the HSPT – an interactive textbook designed to prepare students for the HSPT online and in-person. This includes a licensed membership to IXL through Archimedes so that students can drill foundational skills, if needed.

In HSPT tutoring sessions, students learn dozens of frequently-appearing test vocabulary words, master key grammatical concepts, memorize the math that needs to be memorized (percent to fraction equivalencies, number of pints in a gallon etc.), and internalize, early on, the essential rules of the standardized-test-taking game.

ISEE prep:

In ISEE tutoring sessions, tutors break down the question types in each section and teach the test taking strategies and techniques that go with them. Students learn dozens of frequently-appearing test vocabulary words, practice sentence completion strategies, break down the quantitative comparison section (question types most students have never seen), build reading comprehension skills, learn time management for the essay portion and more.

SSAT prep:

In SSAT tutoring sessions, tutors break down the question types in each section and teach the test taking strategies and techniques that go with them. Students learn the guessing strategy unique to the SSAT, dozens of frequently-appearing test vocabulary words, practice analogy strategies, break down both quantitative sections, build reading comprehension skills, learn time management for the essay portion and more.

Digital SAT and ACT prep:

Our Digital SAT tutoring focuses on breaking down the question types in each section and teaching the test-taking strategies and techniques that go with them. The SAT format recently changed and now includes an adaptive learning component. You can read more about this HERE. Other changes include a fully digital format, combining Reading and Writing into one section, shorter Reading passages with one question per paragraph, calculator usage on the entire math section, and a shorter test duration. A new format requires new test-taking strategies in addition to a thorough understanding of Standard English Conventions, Craft and Structure, Algebra I and II, Data Analysis, Geometry and Trigonometry, etc.

Since both the SAT and ACT are content-based exams, tutors will help students set up comprehensive study plans, as we see the best results when students make a commitment to completing practice problems and other homework outside of tutoring sessions.

The ACT has updated to a new digital format called the Enhanced ACT. This format is shorter, allows for the use of the DESMOS graphing calculator, and has an optional Science section. You can read more about the changes HERE. The ACT will continue to not have an adaptive learning component. Our ACT tutors will continue to focus on breaking down the question types in each section and teaching the test-taking strategies and techniques that go with them. Tutors will ensure that students have a complete understanding of Standard English Conventions, Analyzing Structure and Word Choice, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Plane Geometry, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, reading and analyzing prose fiction, social science, humanities, and natural science passages, etc. For students who choose to take the Science section, tutors will add additional focus on data analysis and research summary skills.

We also offer college counseling, college essay, and college admissions support tutoring. Tutors will help students identify who they are, what their goals are, what experiences have made them who they are, and what they feel they can contribute to the greater good. It’s easy to feel pressure to create the “perfect” essay, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We will not only give students insider tools to approach essay writing, but also make the experience creative and exploratory. Students will complete college essay/admissions tutoring with a better understanding of their own experiential offerings in addition to original, dynamic college essays easily utilized for many different admissions packets

FAQ:

We offer 1 hour, 1.5 hours, and 2 hour long sessions. Please note, all test-prep sessions are 1.5 hours long.

If you are in the greater Atlanta area, we are available to come to your home or location of your choice (library, etc.). Otherwise, we work with students nationwide and sessions are held remotely via Zoom.

Parents will receive an invoice on the first of every month, which includes detailed session notes and a breakdown of time spent.

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy, so if something comes up please let us know right away. If this is outside of 24 hours — no problem! We’ll reschedule. If it’s within 24 hours though, you are still charged for one hour of the session that was supposed to happen.

Testimonials:

We had our twins tutor and train with Archimedes for their HSPT test.

We had heard from everyone around us that we had to use Archimedes and when we did we knew exactly why. They are extremely professional and know what they are doing. It was a great experience for both of our children.

They each had a different tutor that worked with their specific needs. They both did excellent on their tests and got into all the schools they applied for. If we had to go back and do it again we definitely would use Archimedes again. We actually will look into them when our twins need help in the future.
